Jaguar E-PACE Barrel Roll
OPS provided the design for the structure that launched Jaguar into Guinness World Record™ history for the further barrel roll in a production vehicle in 2017.
The 1.5 second stunt, which has been viewed by over 5 million people (1 million a week after its launch), took 6 months of preparation, with OPS providing both the concept and detailed design of the take-off and landing ramps.
Design required co-ordination between OPS and stunt trajectory specialists in the USA to provide optimum geometry and track load paths over the structures. OPS also collaborated with regular partners Star Group Live to achieve an imposing and dramatic structural form.
OPS were present on site during the 33 test jumps to observe the behaviour of the structure and to ensure that construction met the tight tolerances required for a structure where millimetres of unexpected movement could mean the difference between success and failure.
Stuntman Terry Grant successfully performed the spectacular feat with only minor safety adjustments to the car in the summer of 2017, sending Jaguar into the record books.
