Emirates Air Line, UK

The Emirates Airline Cable Car was devised in response to the need to improve connectivity across the River Thames for pedestrians and cyclists. The Cable Car contributes to improving cross-river links and provides resilience in the event of Jubilee Line closure, while at the same time providing an iconic facility that attracts tourists to the Greenwich Peninsula and the Royal Victoria Dock, thereby helping to drive regeneration.

The Cable Car now provides a link to and from the Greenwich Peninsula which handles large event crowds from the O2 Arena, as well as providing a direct connection between the O2 Arena and ExCel during the London Olympics in 2012.

The project was successfully completed and opened on the 28th June 2012, one month before the Olympic opening ceremony. Simon Ho led the structural engineering design of the 3 steel towers.
