Mike Otlet heads-up OPS Structures in the UK. He is an enthusiastic structural engineer with a passion for “design” and a dedication for creating practical solutions. Mike has a particular expertise in the delivery of long large-span structures ensuring the design takes on-board the influences of the fabrication and construction processes.
Prior to co-founding OPS Structures Mike worked for global consultancy, Atkins Ltd as Head of the Group’s Structures business in London and the South East of England. There, he was responsible for a large team of “like- minded” engineers and CAD technicians. Mike previously worked for Anthony Hunt Associates where he initially developed his interest in architecture and design.
Mike is a Chartered Structural Engineer with over 30 years’ experience in civil and structural engineering. As a “hands on” individual Mike has a day to day involvement in projects, directly bringing the benefits of his major project experience to the team and ensuring that this service is provided to local, national and international clients and design teams with equal dedication and energy.
Before joining OPS, Mike was Technical Director at Atkins Ltd where he was responsible for delivering a range of high quality steel projects on time and within budget. Working with distinguished international architects, he has delivered major projects, in particular, long span structures and major transport hubs.
As Technical Director of OPS Structures Mike is an internationally recognised expert in steelwork design, fabrication and construction.
Mike is a chartered engineer with a wealth of experience in project delivery in the UK and Middle East Region. He has over 30 years’ experience in the construction industry having worked as a structural design consultant throughout his career.
Simon joined OPS about six months after OPS was formed in 2015, he is an enthusiastic structural engineer with a flair for design and a proven track record for producing innovative solutions. He has worked on and delivered a number of high profile projects working with some of the World’s leading architects. Simon specialises in stadia design, long span and lightweight structures, and complex 3D analysis.
Prior to OPS, Simon was an Associate at Atkins Ltd from 2011 and spent over 10 years at Buro Happold as Senior Structural Engineer. Simon has a thorough understanding of structural design, leading to cutting edge solution and his major projects include lead roles in the design and delivery of Dubai Opera House, 2012 Olympics, McLaren Showroom Bahrain, Ascot Racecourse redevelopment, Aviva Stadium and Kinaxixi Tower.
Ian has more than 20 years of experience in the design of building structures, from feasibility to construction and utilising different forms of construction from traditional masonry and timber to large steel and concrete framed buildings. He has worked with many top architects on award winning projects utilising several CAD packages including Microstation, Revit Structure and Autocad, to their full capabilities. Many projects have involved complex 3D geometry problems and images and visualisations that have been used in 3rd party publications and marketing material.
Paul has over 11 years of structural engineering experience covering national and international projects in a number of sectors including sports and leisure, retail, residential, commercial, educational, high-rise and industrial. He has provided structural designs in most construction forms, and has delivered major and complex building projects through all RIBA construction stages, from feasibility to construction and handover, and has been involved with a handful of forensic and remedial construction projects.
As lead structural engineer, Paul has worked on a number of substantial projects such as Cardiff City FC East Stand Extension, and the Northampton Saints Barwell Stand projects, and has provided design management and project management to moderate-sized teams of engineers and CAD technicians. He has developed structural capabilities and modelling skills and is a competent user of many structural design and finite element packages, including CSC Fastrak, CSC Orion, Autodesk Robot and Oasys GSA.
In design, Paul aims to understand the detail of client and stakeholder key drivers to insure that the structural solution can add value to a project, wherever possible.
Since joining OPS in 2015, Paul has been working on a variety of exciting projects including a 35-storey office building in the Middle-East, a value-engineered scheme for a new football stadium, and a £30M private house project in Surrey.
