Graduate Structural Engineers (2 positions)

OPS Structures is looking to appoint two ambitious and talented Graduate Structural Design Engineers to work on high-profile projects within our expanding Structures team in Cirencester and also for our new office in London (Paddington).

Candidates are expected to be motivated individuals, keen to contribute to the development and execution of projects in the UK and the Middle East.

Skills Required:

  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Minimum 2:1)
  • Strong problem solving abilities and creativity
  • Ambition to work towards Chartered Engineer status
  • Good communication skills, both verbally and written. Able to present their technical work
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to work well under pressure
  • Good IT skills. A knowledge of design software packages such as Robot, Rhino, STAAD, GSA etc. are desirable but not essential as training will be given. Knowledge of basic packages such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc. are expected
  • Relevant work experience is desirable but not essential

Responsibilities:

  • Undertaking structural engineering analysis and design under the supervision of a senior engineer
  • Design of small to medium sized projects or sections of larger projects so as to achieve the client’s objectives to cost and programme-including were necessary attendance at design teams meeting and workshops
  • Production of design calculations in accordance with relevant codes of practice
  • Gathering of information, carrying out surveys, research
  • Contribution towards specifications, tender/construction documents and reports
  • Supervising and providing assistance to student placements
  • Working with CAD Technicians to produce relevant structural information

Standard contract hours are 37.5 per week, 9.00am to 5.30pm

Senior Structural Engineer (2 Positions)

OPS Structures is looking to appoint two ambitious and talented Structural Design Engineers to work on high-profile projects and develop our expanding Structures team in Cirencester and also in our new office in London (Paddington).

Candidates are expected to contribute to the development and execution of projects in the UK, and the Middle East and support the day to day running of our head office in Cirencester and support the growth of our new office in London.

Skills Required:

  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Minimum 2:1)
  • Achieved or working to achieve Chartered Engineer status
  • Experience in the design of structures using conventional engineering materials (steel, concrete, timber, masonry). Knowledge of other materials such as aluminium, glass, GRP etc would be beneficial but not essential
  • Experience of designing to the Eurocodes and British Standards. Knowledge of American codes and Seismic design would also be beneficial but not essential
  • Strong problem solving abilities and creativity
  • Good communication skills, both verbally and written. Able to present their technical work
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to work well under pressure
  • Good leadership, time management and teamworking skills
  • Ability to use Robot Structural Analysis software is essential, with experience in Rhino, Grasshopper, Etabs, AutoCAD and Revit also preferable, but not essential
  • Experienced in the analysis and design of 3D frames
  • Highly motivated with the ability to work both independently and as part of a larger team

  • Carrying out internal design reviews
  • Gathering of information, carrying out surveys & research.
  • Review and comment on contractor calculations, method statements and drawings
  • Writing of specifications, tender/construction documents and reports
  • Mentoring, supervising and providing assistance to graduate engineers and student placements.
  • Working with CAD Technicians to produce relevant structural information
